Marshals Find Pa. Boy Months After Mom Attacked
MILTON, Pa. (AP) -- U.S. marshals said they recovered a 4-year-old boy in Maryland on Thursday, nearly three months after his mother was severely injured during a razor blade assault in central Pennsylvania.
The boy was found with a woman hiding in the bathroom of a motel in Salisbury, Md., the U.S. Marshals Service said. The woman, 21-year-old Michelle L. Smith of Milton, Pa., is among three people facing charges in Milton for the Aug. 4 slashing attack.
A second suspect, 25-year-old Andrew R. Bradford of Milton, was arrested last month in Seaford, Del., while a third, 30-year-old Katone Walker, was taken into custody Thursday as he tried to leap from the balcony of an apartment in Delmar, Md., authorities said.
The Marshals Service said the boy's mother, who was not named, was held down and her face was cut severely, with wounds that reached her facial bones. The three left with the child, the marshals said.
The boy is in the custody of child protective services in Maryland, authorities said. Bradford has already been returned to Pennsylvania, while Walker and Smith were being processed in Maryland as fugitives on Thursday, the Marshals Service said. The suspects couldn't be reached for comment Thursday.
