Marriott To Cut Jobs At Bethesda Headquarters
BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- Marriott International says it will be cutting information technology jobs at its headquarters in Bethesda.
The Washington Post reports formal notices have not been sent out to workers. The company did not say Friday how many of its 1,200 IT employees in Bethesda would be affected.
Marriott has about 15,000 employees in the area, making it one of the biggest employers in the Washington region.
Spokesman Jeff Flaherty says Marriott will be contracting with other companies for IT services to create efficiencies for the company.
In 2010, the company announced it would expand its international presence with new operating divisions in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Flaherty says the company has been reviewing how to deploy its resources since plans were announced for the international expansion.
