Marine Widow's Challenge To Suicide Ruling Fails
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A federal judge in Baltimore is dismissing a military widow's challenge to the official conclusion that her husband's shooting was a suicide.
Kimberly Stahlman of Chevy Chase contends the Marine Corps ignored forensic evidence that Col. Michael Stahlman was slain in Iraq in 2008.
She said in a court filing Thursday that she expects to file an amended complaint next month, addressing shortcomings the court cited in its ruling Wednesday.
The judge found that the original complaint filed last January did not allege that the military's actions caused any harm on which a lawsuit could be based.
Her lawsuit said Stahlman dealt with controversial issues as rule-of-law coordinator at Camp Ramadi. They included the 2005 Haditha massacre in which seven Marines were charged.
