MARC's Penn Line Begins New Schedule
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- After months of criticism over stalled, late and sweltering trains, the MTA is following a new schedule, all aimed at improving your ride.
Kai Jackson explains the changes.
Riders say they're pleased to see the improvements in place, but say only time will tell whether the new plan is working.
The MTA makes a major move to improve MARC train service in Maryland. The agency announced it's added eight trains to the Penn Line service, giving riders 1,000 more seats.
"We've been looking for ways to try and address overcrowding on some of our trains and we think this new schedule will provide options for people and reduce overcrowding," said MTA spokesperson Terry Owens.
"I think it's a good idea," said Odeana Neal. "It would be nice if we could rely on trains a little bit more."
MARC train service moves thousands of passengers every day. In recent years, that service has been less than perfect. Last year on a sweltering June day, MARC train #538 broke down. It stranded riders and prompted an outcry for change.
MARC train riders say the additional seats are needed.
"I think it's a bargain," said one rider. "I think they do a good job."
Amtrak operates the MARC train service for the MTA.
