Man Who Shot At Officers On Capitol Hill Sentenced
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man who was shot by U.S. Capitol Police officers after approaching them with a gun has been sentenced to more than a year in prison.
John Wesley Wheeler Jr. of Suitland, Md., was sentenced to 16 months in prison in U.S. District Court in Washington on Wednesday.
Wheeler, 30, had previously acknowledged that he ran toward an officer sitting in a police car near the U.S. Capitol in the early hours of Sept. 17, 2010, pointing a gun in the car's direction. After the officer sped away, Wheeler approached two other officers in the area and was shot. He pleaded guilty to assaulting, resisting, or impeding the officers in March.
