Man To Be Sentenced In Murder Of Va. Activist
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A sentencing hearing is set for a man who acknowledged being involved in the kidnapping and murder of a northern Virginia activist.
The hearing for Ivan Newman is set for Thursday at the Prince George's County Courthouse. As part of a plea agreement, Newman acknowledged his role in the death of activist Lenny Harris, 53, of Alexandria, whose body was found at the bottom of a well in Fort Washington in January 2012.
Two other men were also involved in Harris' death. Linwood Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and other charges. A jury convicted another man, Tyrone Lewis, of shooting Harris. He is set to be sentenced Nov. 1.
