Man Dies After Police-Involved Shooting In Anne Arundel County
GAMBRILLS, Md. (WJZ)—A quiet Anne Arundel County neighborhood is rocked by a deadly shooting. A police officer killed a man Friday in Gambrills near Odenton after a fight gets out of control.
Monique Griego explains what led up to that shooting.
The man was brought to Shock Trauma where he later died. Police say he was shot and killed after he attacked an officer.
Just before 6 p.m. Friday, police say screams broke the silence of a quiet neighborhood.
"The woman came running out the front door yelling 'Help me! Help me!'" said Anna Krolikowski, neighbor.
Neighbors in the 500-block of Frost Valley Lane in Gambrills frantically called police as they watched the situation escalate.
"Before the officer arrived we received another call that the female had been forcibly dragged back into the home by the male half," said Lt. Glenn Shanahan, Anne Arundel County police.
When an Anne Arundel County officer arrived on scene, investigators say the domestic disturbance turned deadly.
Police say at some point the man and the officer ended up in the back of the house. A struggle ensued, and that's where the officer shot him at least once.
"Then I heard three shots - real quick bang, bang, bang," said William Williams, neighbor.
Emergency crews rushed the man to Shock Trauma where he later died.
The woman was also taken to the hospital.
It's still unclear whether the suspect was armed.
While neighbors are still in shock with what happened, they're happy police responded quickly.
"Glad it wasn't the woman hurt and glad it wasn't the policeman. That's how I feel," said Krolikowski.
Police say they had no previous calls for domestic violence to the home. The investigation into the shooting continues.
The officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave.
