Man Sentenced In Officer's Death Heading To Rehab
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A man sentenced to eight years in prison after leading police on a high-speed chase that resulted in the death of an officer is heading to a drug treatment facility.
A Frederick County Circuit judge on Thursday suspended the rest of 56-year-old James Franklin Sweeney Jr.'s sentence. The judge also signed an order to commit Sweeney to an inpatient facility once a bed becomes available.
The News-Post of Frederick reports that Sweeney was sentenced in 2009 after pleading guilty to fleeing and eluding resulting in death. The chase on Oct. 22, 2008 led to the death of Frederick Police Officer Richard Bremer when Bremer crashed his cruiser in a wooded area.
