Man Sentenced For Faking Illness To Avoid Paying
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore man who prosecutors say made a career of faking seizures to avoid paying for food he ate in restaurants has been sentenced -- again.
Andrew Palmer, 46, pleaded guilty on Friday to theft of less than $100 and theft of less than $1,000 in two incidents, which occurred days after he was released from prison on similar charges. Palmer was sentenced to a year in prison.
Prosecutors say on Jan. 17, Palmer ate at a Fells Point restaurant and pretended to suffer a seizure to avoid a bill of more than $60. Authorities say Palmer did the same thing three days later at a downtown steakhouse to avoid a bill of more than $160.
Prosecutors say Palmer has been convicted dozens of times, mostly for dining and dashing.
