Man Sentenced For Assaulting Federal Officer
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- A Randallstown man has been sentenced to a year in prison for causing a U.S. Park Police officer to be thrown into traffic on the Baltimore Washington Parkway.
Jesse Lee Bell, 39, who pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer, was sentenced on Thursday.
Prosecutors say on Aug. 27, 2011, Bell was pulled over by a Park Police officer when his truck drifted out of its lane. Authorities say Bell refused to obey the officer's orders to get out of his truck.
Prosecutors say when the officer reached through the open window to unlock the truck's door, Bell drove onto BW Parkway, striking the officer. The officer fell into the right lane of the highway. Drivers who were traveling toward him were able to avoid striking the officer.
