Man Pleads Guilty To 2 Hagerstown Bank Robberies
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A man whose surveillance camera photos led to his arrest has pleaded guilty in two bank robberies.
50-year-old Jeffrey Irvin Sheffler entered the pleas Monday in Washington County Circuit Court. Prosecutors say they will seek a 12-year prison term. A sentencing date was not set.
Authorities say Sheffler went into the Susquehanna Bank on April 22, presented a note demanding money to a teller and fled with more than $2,000.
On May 7, prosecutors say Sheffler went into the PNC Bank with a note demanding cash and fled with more than $3,000. The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that photos from the robbery were released later that day, and police received numerous calls identifying him. He was arrested that afternoon.
