Man Pleads Guilty In Elkton Store Slaying

ELKTON, Md. (AP) -- Prosecutors say a man has pleaded guilty to beating a man to death in an Elkton store.

Deputy State's Attorney Kerwin Miller says Troy Kelly, 43, pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder in the death of James Pierce, 55. Miller says prosecutors will seek the maximum 30-year prison term at sentencing May 6.

Miller says video surveillance shows that on Aug. 18, Kelly and Pierce had a brief communication before Pierce went into the story. The prosecutor says Kelly followed Pierce into the store and beat him with his hands.

Miller says Pierce died at a local hospital of blunt force head injuries.
