Man Paralyzed In 2004 Shooting At Randallstown HS Awarded $21M
TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- A Baltimore man paralyzed from the waist down in a shooting after a 2004 charity basketball game at Randallstown High School has been awarded more than $21 million in a civil lawsuit against the shooter and his accomplice.
An attorney for William Thomas III tells The Daily Record that his client doesn't expect to see the money, but Monday's verdict allows him to appeal the decision that threw out his case against Baltimore County, police officers and the school board.
Thomas and three others were injured when shots were fired into a crowd.
The shooter was sent home, but returned hours before the shooting when police searched him and found nothing. School administrators decided police weren't needed for the game.
The original suit sought $140 million from all defendants.
