Man Looking To Buy Car Off Craigslist Shot And Killed
HARMANS, Md. (WJZ) -- It started with an online advertisement and a man looking to buy a car. But the purchase took a tragic turn.
Linh Bui reports Anne Arundel County Police are now investigating a homicide.
Police continue searching for the shooter who they say used Craigslist to find his victim.
Halloween night, a Craigslist deal turned deadly. Just before 8 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police responded to a shooting in the 7400-block of Railroad Avenue in Harmans.
Police found Rene Leiva-Archila, 44, of Baltimore badly wounded.
"He was taken to the hospital and pronounced deceased, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body," said Lt. T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.
According to police, this was not a random shooting. They say the victim saw an ad on Craigslist for a vehicle and came to a parking lot to meet the seller.
But police say the suspect used the Craigslist ad to lure the victim to a secluded area.
They say the suspect planned to rob Leiva-Archila and shot him during the attempted robbery.
"This is a very active and fluid investigation, and we're still trying to find out more," said Smith.
The suspect got away and police are still looking for him.
Police say if you're responding to an online advertisement, meet the seller in a high-traffic area during the day and bring someone with you.
