Man Gets 30 More Years For Fellow Inmate's Death
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Allegany County prosecutors say a North Branch Correctional Institution inmate has been sentenced to an additional 30 years in prison in the death of a fellow inmate.
The Cumberland Times- News reports that Anthony Monroe was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of Michael Armstead and sentenced Thursday. The 30-year sentence is to be served consecutive to any other sentence.
Prosecutors say Monroe, 33, attacked Armstead, 53, in November 2012 while walking to the dining hall at the prison facility. Armstead never regained consciousness and died as a result of his injuries at Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore in January.
