Man Gets 25 Years In Beating Death At Homeless Camp

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A man who beat another homeless man to death during an alcohol-fueled fight has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Thirty-one-year-old Marvin House III, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in August, was sentenced Monday in Washington County Circuit Court, according to The Herald-Main of Hagerstown.

House was convicted in the death of 63-year-old Jan Hammond and for assaulting 36-year-old Willie Ladson Jr. at a homeless camp near City Park in Hagerstown.

Prosecutors say on Jan. 17, the three men were drinking and started fighting after Ladson and Hammond insulted House's girlfriend. Police say House repeatedly punched both men.
