Man Gets 10 Years In Off-Duty Detective's Death
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for throwing a chunk of concrete that killed an off-duty Baltimore police officer during a dispute over a parking space.
Sian James was sentenced Wednesday in Baltimore Circuit Court.
He had been charged with murder in the death of Detective Brian Stevenson, but a jury convicted him of involuntary manslaughter, which carries a maximum 10-year term.
Prosecutors said James ratcheted up an argument into a deadly assault. James testified that he acted in self-defense and feared Stevenson was going to shoot him and his friend.
