Man Found Guilty In Md. In Death Of Activist
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A man has been convicted in Prince George's County of kidnapping and killing a community activist whose body was found in a well.
Tyrone Lewis was convicted Tuesday of murder and other charges in the death of Lenwood Harris, a community activist in northern Virginia.
Prosecutors say Lewis and two other men seeking to get bail money for an arrested friend kidnapped Harris in September 2011 and demanded his ATM card and pin number. Authorities say Lewis shot Harris at an abandoned house in Fort Washington and then helped dump his body down a well. The body was found in January 2012.
He faces up to life in prison without parole plus 140 years. The two other men have both pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
