Man Faces 200 Years For Terrorizing Family, Assaulting Pregnant Woman
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A man is facing more than 200 years in prison for his role in a violent home invasion. Police say the suspect terrorized seven family members, holding a gun to a child's head and assaulting a pregnant woman.
A jury found David Perkins guilty on multiple counts Friday -- including first- and second-degree assault, robbery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree burglary.
Police say Perkins and another man, Pierre Sims, forced their way into a Baltimore family's home in August 2014 and terrorized them for hours.
At one point, prosecutors say the suspects put a gun to the head of a nine-year-old boy, and even dragged the mother, who was eight and a half months pregnant at the time, up and down the stairs by her hair.
The suspects allegedly told the family that if they called police, they would come back and kill them all -- starting first with the youngest.
Police later found the family bound and gagged with belts and other articles of clothing in the basement of the home. A witness had flagged them down after receiving a text message from one of the family members.
Detectives were able to track down the suspects after stolen property was found in the area.
Sims pleaded guilty and will be sentenced to 30 years with all but 12 years suspended.
Perkins faces up to 232 years in prison. He will be sentenced on August 16.
