Man Critically Injured In Salisbury House Fire
SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- State fire officials say a man was critically injured in a fire at a Salisbury home.
The State Fire Marshal's Office says when the fire broke out Sunday evening, the homeowner, who was visiting a neighbor, rushed home but heavy smoke and flames kept him from getting in.
Firefighters were able to reach 76-year-old Gordon Hitchcock, who was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He was later flown to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center's burn center in Baltimore for treatment of smoke inhalation and severe burn injuries to the upper torso and face.
Officials say smoke alarms in the home were not operating at the time of the fire.
Investigators say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
