Man Convicted Of Accident That Killed Best Friend
ELKTON, Md. (AP) -- A man has been convicted of negligent vehicular homicide while impaired by alcohol in a 2010 car crash that killed his best friend.
The Cecil Whig reports Paul Edward Knettler, 61, of Elkton was convicted Wednesday. A jury acquitted him of a more serious charge, negligent manslaughter by motor vehicle. He will be sentenced June 5, when he faces up to three years in prison.
Kenneth Hampson, 66, of Elkton was a front-seat passenger in a car driven by Knettler. The two had been drinking at a friend's home.
According to testimony, Knettler was trying to make a left turn when he cut into the path of another car. Hampson died later at a Delaware hospital. Knettler and the other driver were injured.
