Man Convicted In Wife's Death Charged With Rape
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) -- A Baltimore County police spokesman says a man serving a 25-year sentence in the death of his wife has now been charged with a 10-year-old rape.
Police spokesman Lt. Rob McCullough says Nankisoor Ramnath, 56, has been charged with second-degree rape and related charges after his DNA was linked to the 2001 assault.
McCullough says the woman reported the rape to police after it happened, but detectives exhausted all leads and suspended the investigation several months later. But in December, Maryland State Police contacted Baltimore County Police, alerting them to a DNA match.
Ramnath's DNA had been collected following his 2008 conviction for strangling his wife, Nirmala Maharaj, 50, in their home.
