Man Convicted In Slaying Of Md. Art Restorer
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- A handyman has been convicted of murdering a Montgomery County woman who specialized in restoring centuries-old paintings.
The jury on Friday convicted Raymond Williams of first-degree murder in the July 2010 slaying of Azin Naimi.
Prosecutors say Williams, a handyman at Naimi's North Bethesda arts center, stabbed Naimi, strangled her, wrapped her body in a blanket and dumped her in an alley. The Washington Post reports that the verdict makes Williams eligible for a sentence of life without parole.
Raymond Williams' attorneys acknowledged during the trial that their client killed Naimi, but argued that he was too high on PCP and cocaine to form the necessary premeditation for first-degree murder.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 26.
