Man Convicted In Death Of Girlfriend's Infant Daughter
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A 23-year-old man has been convicted of manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend's 1-year-old daughter.
A Baltimore City Circuit Court jury convicted Sharmell Thomas on Thursday. He faces a maximum of 40 years in prison at sentencing.
Prosecutors say the toddler was found with Thomas on June 13, not breathing, and died at a hospital. A police officer reported that the child had bruises on her arms and torso.
Authorities say her death was ruled a homicide by abusive head trauma.
Thomas had been babysitting the girl and said she had a seizure.
