Man Charged With Crashing Stolen Car, DUI
BOONSBORO, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a Hagerstown man has been charged with crashing a stolen luxury car into a tree at a county park.
Authorities say Benjamin Frederick Nelson, 28, was charged Sunday with auto theft, driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and negligent driving, among other charges.
Police say troopers responded to a vehicle collision at Devil's Backbone County Park about 7:45 p.m. Sunday. Police say the driver had crashed a Jaguar into a tree and had left the scene. While investigating the accident, police say they received a report that the Jaguar had been stolen.
Authorities say they found Nelson walking along U.S. Route 40 and arrested him. He was charged after being treated for minor injuries at a hospital.
