Man Charged With 2 Murders In Oakland, Md.
OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- An Accident man faces two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of a young man and woman from Oakland.
Jeffrey Minnick, 45, was being held without bond Monday at the Garrett County jail.
Sheriff's deputies arrested Minnick Friday in the deaths of Jessica Baker, 18, and Timothy Lax, 24. Their bodies were found early Wednesday morning at a vagrant camp in a wooded part of Oakland.
Minnick told some nearby residents he had been stabbed in a fight that same night.
He is a registered sex offender, stemming from a North Carolina conviction.
Minnick was convicted in 2001 in Maryland of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The public defender's office didn't immediately return calls seeking comment on the case.
