Man Charged In Kidnapping Attempt At Germantown Store
GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Police say a man who tried to abduct a 2-year-old from a Germantown store was chased down and stopped by the child's father and customers.
According to an arrest affidavit written and signed by Montgomery County Police Officer John Staiger, Jermaine Laray Palmer, 23, grabbed the boy at a Best Buy store and tried to leave with him on Wednesday afternoon.
The child's father chased Palmer and caught him at the front doors of the store. Police say the two wrestled, but Palmer escaped from the store. Police say a group of customers jumped into help and held Palmer until police arrived.
Court records and jail officials say Palmer has been charged with child abduction, assault and other counts, and was being held Thursday night.
