Man Charged In D.C. Slaying Resumes Hunger Strike
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A German-born man charged with killing his socialite wife in their Georgetown home has resumed his hunger strike.
According to The Washington Post, psychiatrists at St. Elizabeths Hospital wrote in a letter filed to D.C. Superior Court this week that Albrecht Muth has stopped eating and had to be taken to an emergency room three times this month. Muth, 48, is charged with murder in the death of Viola Drath, 91, last August.
As a result of the hunger strike, doctors say they need more time to evaluate Muth's mental state. They were supposed to submit a report on Muth's competency by Thursday in anticipation of his next hearing on Sept. 6.
Muth was admitted to St. Elizabeths earlier this year after he went on a similar hunger strike.
