Man Arrested For Fatal Shooting Of MTA Bus Driver
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— City police have arrested Kevin Carroll, 34, for the shooting death of a MTA bus driver on the South Baltimore block where he lived.
MTA bus driver Craig Ray Jr., 34, was found lying on the ground, shot in the back, at 12:07 a.m. last Monday in the 2400-block of Wilgrey Court, an apartment complex in the Westport neighborhood.
He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead almost an hour later.
"It is always sad when we lose a member of our MTA family," a statement from MTA reads. "We will mourn the loss of bus operator Craig Ray and send our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time."
MTA confirms Ray had been a bus driver since 2009 and did not have a regular route but would pick up open ones.
His sister told WJZ's media partner, The Baltimore Sun, that Ray would get up between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. for his daily shifts.
She says her brother was a working man and a family man. Though he had no children of his own, she says he was helping his girlfriend raise her children.
Police say Ray lived on the block where he was killed.
Carroll was arrested Saturday. Charges are pending.
