Man Acquitted Of Child Abuse; Son Drank Methadone
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Severn man whose son ingested illegally purchased methadone has been acquitted of child abuse charges.
But Paul Kristopher Brooks Sr., 28, was convicted of nine other charges on Wednesday, including neglect of a minor and reckless endangerment.
Prosecutors say on Sept. 4, Brooks had put the liquid medication in the center console of his car with his 5-year-old son, Kris, in the passenger seat. About an hour later, the boy became ill. He was treated at a local hospital.
The Capital of Annapolis reports that Brooks' defense attorney, Peter O'Neill, argued that his client's actions did not rise to the level of a malicious act.
Brooks will be sentenced Feb. 28.
