Man Accused Of Pointing Gun Incompetent For Trial
ELKTON, Md. (AP) -- A man who was shot by deputies after authorities say he pointed a sawed-off shotgun at them has been found not competent to stand trial.
Ehrlich Harter, 63, has been charged with attempted murder. State psychiatrists found that mental disorders would prevent Harter from understanding court proceedings and to assist in his defense.
He will stay in custody at a state psychiatric hospital in Jessup until he is found competent to stand trial.
Police say on Jan. 6, Harter pointed a weapon at two sheriff's deputies in front of his home in Earleville. They fired, striking Harter five times.
