Man, 78, Hurt In Md. House Fire

PETERSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials say a man has been critically injured in a house fire in Petersville.

Authorities say 78-year-old Robert Garrison was flown to the Washington Hospital Center in D.C. with severe burns and smoke inhalation. He was reported in critical condition.

Officials say the fire was reported shortly after noon on Sunday when a passer-by saw flames and stopped at a neighboring house, where the resident called 911.

Upon arrival, firefighters found Garrison unconscious in the kitchen.

Two cats and two dogs perished in the blaze, which caused $200,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
