Malcolm X Grandson To Speak At Birthday Event
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The only grandson of Malcolm X will speak at a statewide birthday celebration for the civil rights activist.
Malcolm Lateff Shabazz will deliver remarks about his grandfather's legacy at the Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center in Annapolis on Thursday night.
The event is being organized in part by Carl Snowden, the civil rights director for the Maryland attorney general's office. Snowden says it's important that Marylanders understand why Malcolm X continues to be so influential in the black community.
Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965. Had he lived, he would have turned 86 on Thursday.
