Major Outage Reported In Anne Arundel County; Tens Of Thousands Without Power
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- A major power outage has been reported in Anne Arundel County. It happened shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday, the result of a massive power failure in the area.

The outage is affecting customers from Crownsville to Annapolis, as well as traffic and street lights. Over 70,000 people are without power, according to a BGE estimate. Most of the outages are in Annapolis.
Mayor Josh Cohen Tweeted, "Police are deployed across the town. BGE trucks are on the job. Please check for your neighbors who may need assistance."
Cohen says that water and sewer plants are operating normally.
Cohen says for those anxious about the color of the sky, it's normal for major electric power failures.
Fire officials are investigating the outage, but no active fire has been found.
BGE is working to try to identify where exactly the equipment failed, Mayor Cohen says. There is no estimate for when power will be restored.
In a Tweet, BGE said, "Around 9 p.m., they lost service to two main feeder lines into the Annapolis area. Crews are responding to identify the problem and restore service as soon as possible. Please report outages online."
Anne Arundel Medical Center is operating on generators. Hospital officials say everything there is stable.
