Loyola Edges UMBC In 89-83 Overtime Win
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Dylon Cormier scored 34 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead Loyola (Md.) to an 89-83 overtime win over UMBC on Wednesday night.
Cormier was 12 of 22 from the field and sent the game into overtime with a free throw that capped the undefeated Greyhounds' second-half comeback. Eric Laster scored 16 points for Loyola (4-0) while Jarred Jones added 14 and R.J. Williams 10. It was Loyola's second OT victory this season.
The Retrievers (2-3) led by as many as 17 points in the second half and had a chance to win in the final seconds of regulation but freshman Elliott Rodney, the America East's rookie of the week, missed his only free throw shots of the night. Malik Garner led UMBC with 18 points.
UMBC outrebounded Loyola 50-31 but couldn't match the Greyhounds' 50 percent shooting from the field.
