Loved Ones Say Final Goodbye To Ocean City Officer Killed In Plane Crash
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Friends and family pay their final respects to one of two Ocean City police officers killed in a plane crash.
Jessica Kartalija has more on the tribute to Officer Thomas Geoghegan.
Hundreds of family, friends and fellow officers turned out to say their final goodbye.
A somber day in Annapolis as fellow officers looked on at the funeral for 44-year-old Thomas Geoghegan, one of two men killed when his Nanchang CJ-6A plane crashed into the water off a crowded Ocean City beach last week.
"He lived his life. He took every opportunity and he hit it square on and he left it all in the field. He did everything he set out to do, plus more," said his brother, Brian Geoghegan.
A graduate of Broadneck High School, Geoghegan loved adventure. He joined the Ocean City police department as a seasonal officer doing undercover narcotic investigations.
"In every endeavor, he was a friend, detective, coworker. You're talking about a man whose legacy is going to live very strongly with our family at Ocean City," said Officer Levy.
A preliminary investigation by Maryland State Police says Geoghagen was flying when they crashed. He had recently received a wing card, allowing him to fly in precision during air shows.
"From his first lesson, it really sunk in. He would come over the house and buzz the house and we would watch as he was learning. It was definitely a love of his," said Brian Geoghegan.
The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the crash.
He did two and a half years with undercover narcotics work. He made more than 150 drug buys that led to 35 arrests, hundreds of felony counts and thousands of dollars worth of cash.
Funeral services for Joshua Adickes were earlier this week in New Jersey.
