Loved Ones Remember Woman Killed In Fiery Crash
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Loved ones lay to rest a woman killed last week in a fiery crash involving police. Family members say they still have a lot of questions for police.
Monique Griego has more.
Family and friends of Angel Chiwengo gathered Saturday morning at Northside Church in North Baltimore to lay her to rest. The 46-year-old was one of three people killed last Tuesday in a fiery crash on York and Northern.
"My family is completely devastated, completely torn," said Nathan Franklin.
Franklin, Chiwengo's brother-in-law, spoke with WJZ on behalf of her family.
"The support from the community was overwhelming--the local churches, the local businesses," he said.
But Franklin says the family still has a lot of questions about the fatal crash. It happened after two suspects fleeing Baltimore City police slammed into the Jeep she was riding in.
She and both suspects were killed.
The family wants to know if the officers following the suspects broke the department's no chase policy.
"There are some issues I have concern with overall, with the incident that took place out there. Kind of disturbing," Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said last week.
He went on to say the officers still needed to be interviewed but the investigation was ongoing.
But for Chiwengo's loved ones, that's not good enough. They want answers and someone held accountable for her death.
"We want something to be done about this type of behavior from the police department," Franklin said. "We're going to get more answers when they come out. We want change; we want something to be done about this."
Police say a plan is in the works for the commissioner to meet with the family.
