Louisiana Homeland Security Sending Storm Help To Md.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- The Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is sending a two-person team to Maryland to assist with response and recovery for Hurricane Irene.
State officials said Friday the request came from Maryland. The employees will leave Saturday for Maryland and stay there for about two weeks.
In 2005, Maryland sent Louisiana 454 personnel following Hurricane Katrina, including police, urban rescue teams and National Guard troops. After Hurricane Rita the same year, Maryland provided Louisiana with 113 National Guard personnel. After Hurricane Gustav in 2008, Maryland sent 182 National Guard and law officers to Louisiana.
The Louisiana agency recently helped in Alabama and Missouri following tornadoes.
