London Olympic Controversies
The first week of Olympic competition is nearing its end, and already there have been many controversies surrounding these year's games.
Jordyn Wieber Left Out
On Sunday, Jordyn Wieber failed to make the Women's Gymnastics All-Around final, after losing to fellow US teammates Alexandra Raisman and Gabrielle Dougles. Despite out-scoring competitors from other teams only the top two gymnasts from each team are allowed to go on to the All-Around Final and compete for individual medals. With Wieber being left out, many have called to question whether or not that is fair.
Racist Tweets
Two Olympic athletes have been disqualified after making racist remarks on Twitter. Greece's Voula Papachristou racist tweet mocked African Immigrants. Switzerland's Michel Morganella was disqualified after he allegedly tweeted something racist about South Koreans.
Ye Shiwen Accused Of Using Performance Enhancers
Chinese swimmer, Ye Shiwen, is facing accusations of using illegal performance enhancing drugs after her record-breaking performances is in the 400-meter Individual Medley and the 200-Meter Individual Medley. She has denied any use of performance enhancing drugs.
Hope Solo Twitter Rant
U.S Women's Soccer Goalie, Hope Solo, took to twitter to voice her dislike of the way NBC Commenter, and former U.S soccer player, Brandi Chastain, commentated the U.S' opening game against Columbia. Hope Solo was particularly upset with Chastain's critical remarks about the U.S.' defensive play.
Badminton Players Disqualified.
The Badminton World Federation announced the disqualification of eight female badminton double players. This comes after an investigation was conducted after claims the players were purposely throwing matches. Two teams from South Korea, one from China, and one from Indonesia, were disqualified.
