Loch Raven HS Graduate In Coma After Hit And Run
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―A hit and run crash left a 21-year-old Maryland man in a coma. The Loch Raven high school graduate was run over at the University of Miami, where he's now a student.
Adam May reports that the man's family is now praying for his recovery.
The parents of Paul Jones try to stay strong outside Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, as they plead for the publics help in finding the hit and run driver who police say seriously hurt the 21-year-old University of Miami student.
"He is an eagle scout," said Betsy Jones, the victim's mother. "He is an avid duck and goose hunter. He's a beach lifeguard during the summer at Bethany Beach in Delaware. Please, please, help us."
The family says he was walking home Saturday night, crossing the street at the 4500 block of Red Road in Coral Gables, Fla. Police say a light silver or light gray car, possibly an Oldsmobile may have been involved.
And the driver, "We believe might be an elderly male," said Officer Kelly Denham.
Police say the driver may not even know that he hit Paul.
"We can't speculate, but it was dark out there at the time," Denham said.
"Paul has massive head trauma, which is the critical part of his injury at this point," said Betsy Jones. "He has multiple injuries to other systems, but right now that is what's so life-threatening for him. He is in a coma."
"We're just getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving," said Jimmy Jones, the victim's father." We're just going to miss him."
"If this person thinks that they hit Paul Jones, we want them to come talk to us and let's figure out what happened in this crash," Denham said.
People who saw the accident were able to provide a partial vehicle tag number for police.
