Locals Prepare To Watch Royal Wedding Here In Maryland
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—Just because you can't get to the United Kingdom doesn't mean you have to miss out on all the royal wedding excitement.
Weijia Jiang explains you can feel like a wedding guest while staying right here in Maryland.
A million people are expected to fill the streets of London to get a glimpse of the royal wedding. Many are already camping out near Westminster Abbey, including Suzanna Brockman from Maryland, who's studying abroad.
"We don't have a tent. We don't have blankets. My sleeping bag doesn't even zip up. So, it's kind of a disaster. Even if it thunderstorms, I feel like it'll still be fun. We'll be miserable, but it'll still be fun," said Suzanna Brockman, Maryland wedding camper.
And across the world, other Marylanders are getting ready, too.
"The phone's been ringing off the hook," said Marilyn Burge, Reynolds Tavern owner.
At Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis, there's not a spot left for a 5 a.m. viewing party. The all-day event includes a special menu and of course many spots of tea.
"A lot of British people are coming, missing home. This gives them an opportunity to come out. One woman told me she'll be wearing a Union Jack," Burge said.
Burge expects every one of her 42 teapots to be in use Friday. The blend likely to be the most popular is the Buckingham Palace garden tea blend.
"Given the wedding, it's a celebration. And that's what tea is too, a celebration. So it's perfect," said Karen Banner, Reynolds Tavern patron.
A group of friends are celebrating early, sitting at the restaurant's royal table. The big day reminds them of the groom's parents' wedding nearly 30 years ago.
On Thursday, the crowds got a much anticipated glimpse of Kate Middleton, who's sure to generate new memories.
"Either way, it's a princess!" said Angela Davis, Reynolds patron.
