Local Businesses Cashing In On Playoffs
WJZ has complete coverage of the Ravens road to the Super Bowl.
Gigi Barnett reports from M&T Bank Stadium.
The Ravens will not play in the "purple palace" this weekend, but that's not stopping local businesses from cashing in on the playoff excitement.
"Touch down Baltimore...What a job."
That's what Ravens fans hear every time their team scores.
And this is what stores and business owners hear with every move up the playoff ladder: more sales.
"It's definitely a business changer," said Mike Durham, The Sports Shop co-owner.
Some businesses, like The Sports Shop in Towson Town Center, see as much as a 50 percent boost in sales.
It's deja' 'vu for stores. The same thing happened when the Ravens journeyed to the Super Bowl back in 2001.
"We've never done anything like it. In three weeks," Durham said.
Some fans say the closer to game day, the more they buy.
While fans are willing to shell out big bucks to get to the game this weekend in Pittsburgh, Dominic Pedri won't pay a penny. He won two tickets in the Ravens scavenger hunt challenge to find the golden logo around town.
The hard part was choosing a guest to go.
Pedri finally made his decision: "My friend Danny, he lives in Towson with me. We became good friends, and he took me to a Ravens game early in the season. So, I was like 'Hey, I''ll take you to Pittsburgh. Time to give back to you,'" he said.
You can catch all the action right here at WJZ, as the Ravens take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. We'll bring you all the action beginning live at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
