Maryland General Election 2014 Live Blog: Hogan Wins
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's Election Day in Maryland and voters have cast ballots on a number of races, including the closely contested gubernatorial race.
Polls have closed across Maryland.

Several important races will be decided like the Maryland governor's race, attorney general, comptroller and the county executives for Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford and Howard counties.
Up for grabs is the control of the Senate. CBS News has the latest on the election results around the country.
Candidates for governor -- Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown (D-MD) and Republican Larry Hogan -- spent Tuesday campaigning last-minute in hopes to gain some last-minute support.
Brown's election night headquarters are in College Park, Md., while Hogan is set up in Annapolis, Md.

Update, Nov.5, 12:16 a.m.: Republican Larry Hogan has won the Maryland Governor's race.
Update, 11:58 p.m. : With 81 percent reporting, Hogan has 54 percent of the vote, while Brown has 45 percent.
Update, 11:43 p.m.: With 79 percent of precincts reporting, Hogan leads with 54 percent of the votes, to Brown's 45 percent.
Update, 11:35 p.m.: With 77 percent of precincts reporting, 53 percent for Hogan and 45 percent for Brown

Update, 6:50 p.m.:
Update, 6:19 p.m.: UMBC Dept. of Public Policy Chairman Don Norris says the tone of the gubernatorial campaigns were incredibly negative, on both sides.

Update, 5:30 p.m.: Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown is in College Park, Md. preparing for what he hopes will be a win for the Democrats, Mary Bubala reports
Update, 5:29 p.m.: People are making their way to the Hogan headquarters at Westin Annapolis for what they hope to be a win for the Republican candidate, Jessica Kartalija reports.
Update, 5:05 p.m.: The state's board of elections reported that out of their 18,00 voting machines only 44 complaints were received about machines and some were taken out of service.
Update, 4:55 p.m.: UMBC Dept. of Public Policy Chairman Don Norris says the Maryland's Governor's race could come down to how people vote in Baltimore County.
Norris said voter turnout is especially critical in Baltimore County, because it sits right in the middle.
"The guessing right now is Anthony Brown will lose Baltimore County, but he will not lose it by enough to outweigh the votes he'll get in other jurisdictions if he gets turnout," the political analyst said.
Update, 4:47 p.m.: There's been a steady stream of voters headed to the polls today. As Meghan McCorkell reports, the higher early voting turnout this year may be why the lines aren't as long this year.
Update, 4:10 p.m.: Mary Bubala is outside Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown's headquarters.
Brown voted at St. Joseph's Parrish in Upper Marlboro earlier today and spent the day campaigning.
He will be heading to the Alumni Center at the University of Maryland.

Update: 4:03 p.m.: Jessica Kartalija is live outside Republican gubernatorial candidate Larry Hogan's election night headquarters at the Westin Annapolis.
Hogan and his wife Yumi voted in Edgewater earlier today and then did some last-minute campaigning in Annapolis.

Update, 11:13 a.m.: Over at the Baltimore City Board of Elections, officials say so far so good.
Gigi Barnett will have the latest from the polls at noon.
"We have not had any mechanical problems this morning. We did have one or two sites that did open late. But, everything is open and running smoothly," said Armstead Jones, City Elections director.

Update, 7:40 a.m.: Issues with machines have been reported by voters across the state. Just after 7:30 a.m. a viewer emailed WJZ to report "a mess at the voting poll" at Fort Garrison Elementary in Pikesville.
Ira Geller says there were hundreds of people in line to use 25 voting machines, but just two voting machines were operable. She says many people left because of the inoperable machines.

Early voting turnout was up this year with 8.3 percent, or 307,646 voters, heading to the polls early this year.
