Lightning Likely Sparked Annapolis Apartment Roof Fire
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- An Annapolis fire department official says a lightning strike likely started a fire in the roof of an apartment building.
Battalion Chief John Menassa says a caller reported a fire alarm sounding at the building on South Cherry Grove Avenue on Thursday night. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, they found fire on the roof. Menassa says the firefighters were able to put the fire out, but it burned away part of the roof and trusses.
He says the building was evacuated, but since there was no damage to the units, residents were able to return.
Menassa says it appears that lightning caused the fire.
