Lawsuit: Fall Victim's Body Sat In Subway Station For 4 Days
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Relatives of an attorney who died after a fall at a downtown Washington subway station say his body remained on the platform for four days before it was discovered.
That allegation was part of a $25 million lawsuit that relatives of Okiemute Writeru filed against the Metro transit agency on Monday.
Writeru died in October 2013 at the Judiciary Square station. The lawsuit says he fell off an escalator onto the platform and then fell again, a distance of 8 feet, and was incapacitated. Metro said at the time that he fell off a wall between the platform and the side of the station.
The lawsuit says Metro employees saw the fall, which was also captured on surveillance cameras, but that his body wasn't found until four days later.
