Lawmakers To Push For Greater Utility Reliability
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland lawmakers will be introducing legislation aimed at increasing the reliability of utilities in the state, after long power outages prompted outcries in Montgomery County.
Delegate Brian Feldman, D-Montgomery, said Monday night that the measure will direct the state's Public Service Commission to establish specific reliability standards for Maryland electric companies.
Feldman also says the bill will include penalties for utilities that don't meet the standards. The penalties would be directed back to customers.
Pepco, a utility that serves customers in Washington, and Prince George's and Montgomery counties, has been widely criticized for outages lasting days.
