Largest Civil War Exhibit In Md. Opens For 4 Years
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Maryland Historical Society is opening the state's largest exhibit on the Civil War to retell the story of Union and Confederate loyalties that divided the Old Line State.
The 5,000-square-foot exhibit, "Divided Voices: Maryland in the Civil War," opens Saturday and will be updated over the next four years. It will include 3D videos taking visitors back to 1861. On weekends, there will be performances about major events.
The museum will display hundreds of rare objects, including Robert E. Lee's camp chair, John Brown's gun and Abraham Lincoln memorabilia. Many items haven't been shown since the 1800s.
Maryland sent 60,000 men to serve in the Union Army and more than 20,000 for the Confederacy. The legislature moved from Annapolis to Frederick to keep the state from joining the Confederacy.
