Lady Terps End Season With Final Four Loss To Undefeated Notre Dame
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ)—It was a big night for the Lady Terps. They're in the national spotlight as they participated in the Final Four. Fans hoped this would be one more step on the way to a championship.
Monique Griego has more on how things played out.
Fans were definitely excited about Sunday's game, but they also knew the Terrapins were going up against an undefeated Notre Dame. Sadly, things did not go their way.
Final Four madness tipped off and fans were excited at the University of Maryland, College Park.
"We're all cheering them on. We want them to win. They have come so far to the Final Four," said Saksham Chawla, fan.
The Lady Terps faced off against Notre Dame's undefeated Fighting Irish.
"A lot of students were really excited. It's Final Four. Really big. We're going against an undefeated team, so it was really intense," said Shelby Warring, fan.
The last time the Lady Terps were in the Final Four was back in 2006—the year they took it all.
"We hoped so, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it at the current moment," said Akshay Kolluri, fan.
Down by double digits at the half, fans were hoping for any swing in momentum.
"Too bad they're down right now, but hopefully they pull it out," said Korey Richardson, fan.
With the team's season on the line, every shot, every play counted.
But as the clock winded down, it became clear that this was not Maryland's year.
"Hoping for a miracle," Warring said.
Fans are heartbroken over the game but not what the team has already accomplished.
"I think it's big. It represents the school in a great way," Richardson said.
"It gets our school name out there. It's good for recruiting," Kolluri said. But still he says, "I'm a little down right now if you can't tell."
A lot of fans were down Sunday night but they did have the right spirit, saying there's always next year.
