L.G. Gill Joins Maryland Basketball Program
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – L.G. Gill will join the University of Maryland men's basketball team for the 2016-17 season.
Gill will have one year of eligibility with the Terrapins and is expected to play immediately. He is scheduled to graduate from Duquesne with a degree in criminal justice and minor in communication studies this spring.
"We're excited to welcome L.G. to the Maryland basketball family," Turgeon said. "He is a tremendous addition to our program who will be able to make immediate contributions. He is a good shooter and rebounder and is extremely athletic. As one of two seniors on our roster, he will bring high character, strong leadership and experience to our team and will also be a perfect fit for our locker room."
Gill (6-8, 230) played in 94 career games for the Dukes with 42 starts. He finished his career with 663 points and 111 three pointers, while averaging 10.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 30 minutes per game this past season. Gill, who connected on 43.9 percent of his field goal attempts, finished in double digit scoring 27 times at Duquesne, including 14 double-digit performances in 2015-16. He improved his scoring average (+3.2), rebounding average (+2.4), field goal percentage (+.014) and 3-point percentage (+.014) from his sophomore to junior seasons.
"There was an instant connection between me and my future teammates. I could just tell that they were close like brothers and that is something that I would love to be a part of," said Gill.
Gill will join center Damonte Dodd as one of two seniors on next year's roster. The Terps won 27 games last season while advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2003.
