Kolbe's Recap
The final series of the conference semi-finals to start was the Rangers and the Bruins and they made it worth the wait. These original six teams battled hard through 3 periods and an over-time before the Bruins scored and grabbed a 1-0 series lead. Henrik Lundqvist was excellent in net for the Rangers in OT but Brad Marchand was able to find the back of the net and end the festivities with 4:20 left in the game. Game 2 of this series is Sunday at 3pm.
Meanwhile out on the West Coast the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings won their 6th straight playoff game and took a 2-0 series lead. The Kings jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game on goals from Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty. The Sharks rallied back and got three straight goals from Patrick Marleau, Brad Stuart, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. It looked like the Kings winning streak would be snapped but the Sharks took two bad penalties giving the Kings a late 5 on 3 power-play. Kings captain Dustin Brown struck with 1:43 left to tie the game and then Travis Lewis scored with 1:21 left to put the Kings ahead again for good. The series will now shift to San Jose and the Sharks will look to rebound in game 3 Saturday at 9pm.
On Tap for Tonight:
Tonight we will see the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins play game 2 at 7:30pm at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The Penguins lead the series 1-0 after 4-1 win back on Tuesday. The Penguins proved to be too much offense for the Senators to deal with, while Tomas Vokoun continued to give the Penguins great play in goal. The Senators will need goalie Craig Anderson to get back to form tonight and then need their stars Erik Karlsson, Milan Michalek and Daniel Alfreddson to play much better if they are to even the series.
